Sal Jones is a fine artist, working predominantly, in painting and mixed media. Her work is figurative and often takes found images or familiar objects as its starting point, transforming them to alter interpretation and confound stereotype. She has a BA Hons Fine Art degree and a PGCE in Art & Design.
Sal Jones’ recent work is best described as a reinterpretation of the portraiture tradition with an emphasis on emotional conflict. Translating visual information into paintings, she develops ideas and themes with an emphasis on the painted surface. Using photographs of images derived from mass media sources, she explores the nature of, and our relationship with, representation; particularly with regard to human expression and communication.
