Ann Goldberg

Ann Goldberg, a distinguished Vancouver artist, creates works that reflect an artistic precision rooted in her academic background in mathematics and architecture. Painting since childhood, Ann eventually left her architectural career to devote herself entirely to her true passion: painting.   Her work primarily explores themes of realism and the representation of everyday objects, transforming mundane subjects into extraordinary visual experiences through her focused and meticulous approach.   Ann has significantly contributed to the arts community, serving on the board of Arts Umbrella for six years, where she occasionally taught art and architecture. From 2013 to 2014, she was the artist-in-residence at West Point Grey Academy. In 2017, her photorealistic paintings were featured in a group show in Zaragoza, Spain, in collaboration with the European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona. More recently, she was the featured artist in the “Large and In Charge” group show at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff, Alberta, which showcased leading Canadian artists from October 2018 to February 2019.   Ann’s paintings are held in private and public collections across North America and internationally, attesting to her widespread acclaim and the universal appeal of her art.   Step into the enchanting world of contemporary realism with Ann Goldberg’s breathtaking creations, now available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art as well as online. Each masterpiece invites you to explore its unique allure, showcasing Ann’s extraordinary talent and distinctive perspective. “My work focuses on Hyperreality and the tension between the axioms of beauty & time, the uncountable & the countable, painting & photography and lightness & darkness. I am interested in the relationships and interactions these ideas bring forth. At times they are dichotomous. At other times they intersect and interact. I work in oil on canvas with an inclination toward Hyperrealism & Abstract Expressionism (although seemingly opposing) and an interest in the altered reality that digital photography can induce – a painting of something that doesn’t really exist. As Jean Baudrillard suggests in his example of hyperreality – technology distorting reality – “The gulf war did not exist.”- Ann Goldberg
