- Artist Bio
Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Emilie’s practice employs American realism and is based on portraying society on a magnified level of detail. Initiating her practice in the picturesque location of Hawaii, the artist focuses on emphasising the beauty of the everyday.
As her practice evolved in the inspiring Hawaiian setting, the artist adopted a palette knife technique, informed by her husband Mike Fantuz who utilises the method in his work. Currently, Emilie’s oeuvre is defined by a combination of American realism and the Ashcan School, imparting cityscapes and urban landscapes which exude a dreamlike glow. Living in a range of cities, from Kauai to Detroit, the artist withdraws interesting aspects and details of subtle scenes. This results in a unique body of work imbued with beguiling lighting, contrast and emotion.
The artist has been exhibited in the United States and Canada, as well as her work receiving many awards and belonging in several worldwide collections. The artist presently resides in the Canadian city of Vancouver, where she enjoys the reenergising effects of hiking.
b. 1988. Lives and works in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
