Kelly-Anne Cairns

Born: Lancaster, England 1975 Lives: Dunfermline, Scotland Education Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordons University | BA (Hons) Fine Art | 1995 – 99 Kelly-Anne Cairns graduated from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, in 1999. She is based in Dunfermline, Fife, where she works from her studio at home. The human form is her main inspiration – she aims to capture emotions, movement and moments in time. She recreates the subtle skin tones of the figures which are enveloped in sumptuous colours – creating calm, atmospheric paintings. She has exhibited regularly across Scotland, London, New York and Amsterdam. Her portraits have been included in the BP Portrait Awards and The Scottish Portrait Awards. She was selected as an artist for Sky Portrait Artist of the Year, March 2020.
“I manipulate the figure and its surroundings by exploring the contrasts between the angular shapes surrounding the figure and the soft contours of the body.”
