“My work is inspired by the mystery and wonder of the Canadian wilderness. Through painting, I create fantastical creatures and surreal landscapes that blur the line between reality and imagination, inviting viewers into worlds where the extraordinary feels possible.
I am fascinated by folklore, cryptids, and stories of elusive beings said to inhabit forests and remote landscapes. The idea of creatures "hiding in plain sight" has become a central theme in my practice. By camouflaging these imagined beings within natural environments, I encourage viewers to look more closely and question what might exist just beyond the limits of perception.
With a background in realism portraiture, I draw upon a strong understanding of anatomy, proportion, and light to bring a sense of believability to my subjects. Even when their forms are impossible, I strive to make these creatures feel as though they could exist within our world. This balance between realism and fantasy allows me to explore themes of curiosity, discovery, and the unseen.
Ultimately, my paintings are an invitation to reconnect with a sense of wonder. They encourage viewers to slow down, observe carefully, and consider the possibility that nature still holds mysteries waiting to be found.”- Lindsay Liboiron
