- Artist Bio
Morag Lloyds is a landscape painter from Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Trained at Colleges both in England and Scotland studying Illustration and fine art, Morag paints full time from her studio in Scotland and exhibits her work with Galleries around the UK. She worked as a designer in London during the late 1970’s, but has worked as a full-time artist now for over 15 years.
Recent work is inspired by 20 years sailing with family around the Scottish Islands of Argyll, exploring hard to reach places and constantly learning about the rich history of the Western Isles. These days she is still exploring the islands but now by ferry and car.
Her love of the sea, the rural landscape with its rich history, wildlife and the total peace in these places gives her plenty of inspiration. She hopes her paintings give a sense of the peace and connection to nature that can be found in this magical landscape.
- Artist Statement
“I think the best way to explain what inspires my work is to talk about the things that I love and in these times I think I am so much more aware just how much they mean to me and how much I need to be surrounded by these things or to be able to reach them in some way. I am sure that for most of us these times are showing us what really matters, the simple things. Yes, we need to eat and we need to pay the bills but alongside this we also need food for the soul…we all NEED nature
So for me its all about the Islands, the sea, the nature, the remote places, the landscape and her secrets and the stories of our ancestors gone before, which are very much tied together. If I look at the landscape and see a ruined croft I think about the people who lived there what their lives were like and the tell tell signs of the life they had that is left behind in the landscape. I try and imagine the conversations and the hardships I have so much respect for our ancestors they had a tough life.” – Morag Lloyds
