- Artist Bio
Todd Garner specialises in figurative paintings strongly influenced by the work of the prominent American artist Edward Hopper (1882-1967). He is currently an Art Tutor at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
Todd Garner’s work has been described as retro romantic realism, harking back to a time of the 30’s American detective novel. That doesn’t do justice to his remarkable attention to detail in representing the beautiful Art Deco scenes which pervade his work.
Todd’s detailed acrylic paintings follow in the tradition of Edward Hopper, not that Todd’s work parodies but rather continues the tradition of the atmospheric quality of ciné noir in both the portrayal of the interiors and characters.
The Art Deco style is a particular love of Todd’s and is shown in his many architectural pieces and has become a central part of his life, even to the extent of marrying his wife Angela on the RMS Queen Mary. Angela appears in many of his painting.
