This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. Lisa Bisbee’s Chrysler Building Closeup zooms in on the architectural splendour of one of Manhattan’s Art Deco jewels. Painted in oil on canvas, the work captures the spire’s gleaming curves with silvery greys, muted golds, and the faint blush of reflected city light. The close perspective strips away the wider skyline, focusing the viewer’s gaze on design and craftsmanship.

Layers of translucent glaze add luminosity, while underlying contour lines lend the structure clarity and strength. The building seems to glow from within, its polished metal crown emerging against a lively, colour-rich backdrop. Bisbee’s cityscape work here becomes almost sculptural, honouring the building as a piece of art in itself.

Artist statement: Onto of a colorful background, I first paint in the contour lines. Then I paint blocking in the shapes. Layers upon layers, the colors shift when I add oil glaze. Glaze is a translucent color and helps with luminosity. This closeup of the Chrysler Building showcases the Art Deco curvatures toward the spire at the top of the skyscraper.
