Chrysler Building Spring Street offers a striking streetscape that stretches toward one of Manhattan’s most celebrated landmarks. Painted in oil on canvas, the work captures a view alive with traffic, pedestrians, and the iconic yellow cab, framed by the receding geometry of midtown’s architecture.
The palette of violets, pinks, and blues, punctuated by bursts of yellow, captures the city’s restless rhythm. Layered brushstrokes add both texture and a sense of movement, evoking the multisensory experience of being there — the energy, the noise, and the constant motion.
Artist statement: Did you see that scene in “Taxi” when Christopher Lloyd asks “What does a yellow light mean?” Every time I hear it, I giggle… Walking 8 “long blocks” in NYC equals a mile. At the end of the day, my feet hail a cab. What you miss in this painting are the variety of the sounds and the smells of being there on the sidewalk, some good, some not so much. Either way, it’s an urban adventure I’ll never forget, because I painted it, locked down into my memory banks.
