In this oil on canvas, Lisa Bisbee turns her attention to Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall, rendering the brick building in bold reds and purples, set against an electric pink sky. The brushstrokes carry texture and rhythm, characteristic of her abstracted cityscape style, giving a sense of both permanence and energy to the historic site.

Artist Statement:
In 1984, we visited Boston University campus, thinking that I might go there for University. Of course Faneuil Hall was on our list of things to do while in the city. Revolutionary leaders like Samuel Adams delivered speeches in Faneuil Hall and the meetings held there led the way for the Boston Tea Party in 1773. It was the cobblestones that stood out for me, these old blocks where revolutionary history was made, where Samuel Adams would have walked hundreds of years ago. It was like walking through a history book.

The palette mixes historical resonance with a contemporary eye—reds for the building’s façade, layered violets for the cobblestones, and a dramatic sky streaked with warm pinks and yellows. These choices heighten the narrative of the piece, blending history with Bisbee’s expressive style to create a vibrant connection between Boston’s revolutionary past and its modern presence.
