Open Market is painted in oil on canvas, transforming a bustling Singaporean street into a celebration of light and rhythm. Rows of stalls glow in fiery reds, yellows, and magentas, their repetition leading the eye deep into the scene. The architecture and figures are abstracted into luminous patterns, suggesting both the chaos and the charm of the marketplace.
Artist statement: My mom and dad visited the open air market and snapped a photo. Oh she loves a good shopping trip, and they took many photographs of the wares for sale, exotic fruits and sweet treats and giant eggs. I just had to paint one and chose this composition because of the perspective. The rows of open air doors and windows and booth just seemed to go on forever.
The colour palette pulses with warmth, evoking not just tropical heat but also the vitality of human interaction. This painting is less about specific details and more about the energy of the place, the infinite sense of movement and life.
