This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. Williamsburg, Brooklyn is a vibrant cityscape that captures a fleeting moment from the artist’s commute, blending traditional architectural painting with a contemporary twist. Painted in oil on canvas, the work depicts a street view from the M Line train as it enters the city, framed by the rhythm of cars and buildings. The composition’s linear perspective draws the viewer into the scene, offering a unique elevated view of Williamsburg’s urban character.
The saturated palette of purples, reds, and blues — layered with rich textures — transforms the everyday city street into something cinematic. The repetition of forms creates a visual cadence, while the slightly stylised proportions enhance the sense of movement and place. This interplay of realism and artistic reimagining gives the work its distinctive energy.
Artist statement: On the train I sit at the window to catch reference photos which I will paint back in my studio. I caught this one from the subway train as we zoomed into the city on the M Line train overlooking some random street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I look for perspective with repetition of buildings and cars to show the various neighborhoods.
