Dutch Wings by Michael Steinbrick is a beautifully observed original still life painting, combining traditional realism with an elegant and timeless contemporary aesthetic.
Measuring 40 x 40cm, the artwork is painted in oil on canvas and features a faceted crystal decanter and a delicate wine glass, each engraved with a miniature Dutch winter landscape, set against a rich red draped backdrop. A buckeye butterfly perches on the rim of the glass, its patterned wings echoing the antique detail of the crystal, while a small cluster of cherries rests at the base.
Steinbrick’s realist style captures the faceted brilliance of the cut crystal and the painted winter scenes held within it with meticulous attention to detail. The reflective surfaces of the decanter and glass are carefully rendered, creating a convincing sense of depth and craftsmanship that brings the still life to vivid life.
The deep red, charcoal and icy blue colour palette creates a striking balance of warmth and coolness. The rich red curtain provides drama and intimacy, while the cool blue-grey tones of the engraved landscapes and the butterfly’s wings introduce a note of quiet contrast, giving the composition an atmospheric, jewel-like quality.
The carefully arranged composition gives Dutch Wings a timeless quality, celebrating the beauty of antique glassware and natural form through the refined tradition of realist still life painting.
Signed by the artist and ready to display, Dutch Wings makes an elegant addition to a contemporary home, dining room, living space, office or design-led interior.
The artwork is particularly appealing to collectors of original still life paintings, realism, contemporary figurative art and traditional oil painting. Its combination of vibrant colour, carefully observed detail and sophisticated composition gives the work a warm yet refined character.
Signed and ready to display, Dutch Wings is a beautifully crafted original painting by Michael Steinbrick, offering collectors a sophisticated celebration of colour, texture, light and the enduring appeal of realist still life.
