Fireflies by Michael Steinbrick is a beautifully observed original still life painting, combining traditional realism with an elegant and atmospheric contemporary aesthetic.
Measuring 76 x 76cm, the artwork is painted in oil on canvas and features a blue-and-white porcelain vase and ginger jar filled with lilies and allium blooms, arranged beside glowing paper lanterns inscribed with Chinese characters. A butterfly rests on the ginger jar’s lid, while a brass ewer, a bowl of kumquats and a delicate teacup complete the tableau, all set against a darkened room dotted with drifting points of light.
Steinbrick’s realist style captures the intricate floral patterning of the porcelain and the warm inner glow of the lanterns with meticulous attention to detail. The soft luminosity of the hanging lanterns and the crisp texture of the lilies and fruit are carefully rendered, creating a convincing sense of depth and quiet enchantment.
The indigo, ivory and amber colour palette creates a harmonious balance of cool and warm tones. The cool blues of the porcelain and night sky provide a calm foundation, while the glowing amber lanterns and golden fruit introduce warmth and radiance, giving the composition a magical, storytelling quality.
The carefully arranged composition gives Fireflies a timeless quality, celebrating cultural tradition and quiet domestic beauty through the refined tradition of realist still life painting.
Signed by the artist and ready to display, Fireflies makes an elegant addition to a contemporary home, dining room, living space, office or design-led interior.
The artwork is particularly appealing to collectors of original still life paintings, realism, contemporary figurative art and traditional oil painting. Its combination of vibrant colour, carefully observed detail and evocative atmosphere gives the work a warm yet refined character.
Signed and ready to display, Fireflies is a beautifully crafted original painting by Michael Steinbrick, offering collectors a sophisticated celebration of colour, texture, light and the enduring appeal of realist still life.
