Peaches

This original oil on canvas painting by Christopher Witchall presents a quietly confident still life, where everyday fruit is elevated through clarity, balance, and restraint.

Rendered in a contemporary realist style, the composition focuses on a deep blue bowl filled with ripe peaches, one carefully cut open to reveal its golden flesh. Witchall’s use of oil paint allows for subtle transitions between light and shadow, capturing the velvety skin of the fruit and the gentle weight of the bowl resting on the surface. The setting is minimal, drawing attention to form, texture, and proportion rather than narrative.

The colour palette is both fresh and controlled: warm peach and amber tones sit against a cool turquoise-green background, while the rich blue of the bowl anchors the composition. This contrast creates a sense of calm precision, allowing the softness of the fruit to stand out without excess detail. The result is a timeless still life that feels considered, luminous, and quietly elegant.
