The Hidden Monarch by Michael Steinbrick is a beautifully observed original still life painting, combining traditional realism with an elegant and atmospheric contemporary aesthetic.
Measuring 40 x 40cm, the artwork is painted in oil on canvas and features a slender glass vase holding a single crimson coneflower alongside sprays of smaller pink blooms, set against a richly draped violet curtain. At the base of the vase, a monarch butterfly rests among slices of orange, its wings catching the light against the shadowed tabletop.
Steinbrick’s realist style captures the delicate translucency of the glass, the soft velvet of the curtain folds and the fine patterning on the butterfly’s wings with meticulous attention to detail. The interplay of reflected light within the glass vessel and the crisp textures of the citrus fruit bring the composition to life with a quiet, theatrical stillness.
The deep violet, crimson and burnt-orange colour palette creates a rich and sophisticated harmony of warm and cool tones. The saturated purples of the curtain lend the scene a sense of drama and depth, while the warm orange and coral accents draw the eye toward the central grouping, giving the composition a luminous, jewel-toned quality.
The carefully balanced composition gives The Hidden Monarch a timeless quality, celebrating the fleeting beauty of nature through the refined tradition of realist still life painting.
Signed by the artist and ready to display, The Hidden Monarch makes an elegant addition to a contemporary home, dining room, living space, office or design-led interior.
The artwork is particularly appealing to collectors of original still life paintings, realism, contemporary figurative art and traditional oil painting. Its combination of vibrant colour, carefully observed detail and dramatic lighting gives the work a warm yet refined character.
Signed and ready to display, The Hidden Monarch is a beautifully crafted original painting by Michael Steinbrick, offering collectors a sophisticated celebration of colour, texture, light and the enduring appeal of realist still life.
