Untamed Majesty by Sophia Chalklen is a beautifully observed original impressionist wildlife painting, combining meticulous realism with a rich and atmospheric contemporary aesthetic.
Measuring 80 x 80cm, the artwork is painted in oil and presents an intimate close-up portrait of a tiger, its intense amber eyes fixed directly on the viewer, set against a warm, softly blurred backdrop of golden and umber tones.
Chalklen’s technique combines fine, controlled detail in the tiger’s fur, whiskers and piercing gaze with a looser, painterly treatment of the background, drawing the viewer’s attention firmly to the animal’s powerful expression. The bold black stripes are rendered with crisp precision against softly blended orange and cream fur, capturing both the strength and quiet dignity of the subject.
The palette of amber, burnt orange, black and cream creates a warm, richly toned composition, while the hazy sepia background enhances the luminosity of the tiger’s eyes and the vibrancy of its coat. This restrained, earthy colour scheme lends the portrait a timeless, painterly gravitas.
The close, direct composition gives Untamed Majesty a powerful presence, capturing the quiet strength and untamed spirit of one of nature’s most striking creatures.
Signed by the artist and ready to display, the painting makes a striking addition to a contemporary home, study, living space, office or design-led interior.
It is particularly appealing to collectors of original wildlife painting, realism, animal portraiture and contemporary figurative art. Its combination of rich colour, meticulous detail and commanding composition gives the work a bold yet refined character.
Signed and ready to display, Untamed Majesty is a beautifully crafted original painting by Sophia Chalklen, offering collectors a powerful celebration of nature, texture and the enduring appeal of wildlife portraiture.
