Teacup with Grapes 2

This original still life is delicately imparted with classical techniques mastered by contemporary artist Rebecca Ritchie. Inspired by the Dutch masters, in both technique and lighting, she uses many glazed layers and favors ‘Chiaroscuro’ lighting with bold contrasts between dark and light. Grapes and a delicate porcelain vessel seem to radiate with deceptively true-to-life textures. The rich opposition in the interplay of shadows and highlights in this piece gives the focal subject matter a sense of drama which is intriguing to observe.
